Google added another new service last month, called Google SOS Alerts. SOS Alerts activate during the most major natural, man-made, or humanitarian disasters. During a crisis, you’ll see an SOS Alert at the top of search results when searching for the incident or location.
Remember that Google is a search engine company. They aren’t really giving you the information as an authoritative entity such as your local police or government, rather they pull the information from various sources such as your police and government sites, as well as news, etc. They’ll place that data for you to find it more easily. It makes it more immediate, and will save people valuable time in emergency situations.
I think this is kind of cool. You don’t have to do anything but search Google for the incident/location, and everything you need is right there.
